Tree Pose (Vrksasana)

balance
Tree Pose

Targets the ankle stabilizers, glutes, and deep hip rotators of the standing leg, plus the adductors of the raised leg pressing into the thigh. Helpful for building single-leg balance, ankle stability, and mental focus, and as the accessible gateway balance pose before progressing to Eagle or Warrior III. The movement stands on one foot and places the sole of the other foot against the inner calf or upper inner thigh (never the knee), then presses the foot and thigh together while fixing the gaze on a still point and bringing the hands to the heart or overhead.

Cues

  • Press the foot and inner thigh together and fix the gaze on one steady point.
