Supine Straddle Pose (Supta Samakonasana)

This passive reclined pose stretches the inner thighs and groin by allowing both legs to open wide toward the sides with gravity as the only force. It is an accessible and deeply relaxing way to release the adductors and hip flexors, particularly useful near the end of a class or during yin practice. The practitioner lies on the back with legs extended outward and lets the weight of the limbs do the work over time.
Cues
- Let gravity draw the legs apart — avoid pushing them wider with the hands.
- Keep both feet flexed or let them relax naturally; flexing engages the leg muscles slightly for a different quality of stretch.
- Rest the arms alongside the body with palms facing up to encourage full-body release.
- Breathe into the inner groin with each inhale, and soften a little more with each exhale.
