Sleeping Yogi Pose (Yoga Nidrasana)

Sleeping Yogi Pose

An advanced supine pose that folds both legs behind the head simultaneously, demanding extraordinary hip mobility, hamstring length, and spinal flexibility. It creates a profound opening across the outer hips, sacrum, and lower back while challenging the practitioner to find stillness in deep compression. The arms cross behind the back or rest at the sides as the spine settles into a rounded, tucked position.

Cues

  • Only enter this pose after thoroughly warming the hips, hamstrings, and lower back — never force the legs behind the head.
  • Breathe slowly and steadily; if the breath becomes strained, back out of the pose immediately.
  • Let the weight of the legs encourage the opening rather than pulling with the arms.
  • Keep the chin slightly tucked and the neck long to protect the cervical spine.
