Sage Marichi's II Pose (Marichyasana B)

Marichyasana B builds upon Marichyasana A by placing the opposite leg into a half-lotus before folding forward with a bound wrap around the bent knee leg. This variation creates a concentrated stretch in the outer hip of the lotus leg alongside the deep forward fold over both legs. It demands significant hip flexibility and is practiced with focused, steady breathing to allow the body to gradually open into the shape.
Cues
- Establish the half-lotus placement first, ensuring the foot is seated high on the opposite thigh before adding the forward fold.
- Keep both sitting bones grounded; if the lotus-side hip lifts, place a blanket beneath it for support.
- Breathe into the outer hip of the lotus leg throughout the hold, releasing any gripping with each exhale.
- Only attempt the bind after the spine can remain reasonably long; use a strap as an extension if the hands cannot meet.
