Half Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana)

balance
Half Moon Pose

Targets the glutes and hip abductors of the standing leg, the obliques and core to maintain the lateral plane, and the shoulder stability of the supporting arm. Helpful for building lateral body strength and advanced single-leg balance, opening the hip and chest simultaneously, and as a peak balance pose after Triangle or Warrior II. The movement balances on one straight leg with the bottom hand or a block on the floor, lifts the other leg parallel to the floor, stacks the top hip over the bottom, opens the chest to the side, and reaches the top arm to the sky.

Cues

  • Stack the top hip and reach the top arm skyward as the lifted leg floats.
