Front Splits Pose (Hanumanasana)

Front Splits Pose

Hanumanasana is an advanced full split that demands exceptional flexibility in the hip flexors, hamstrings, and inner groin of both legs simultaneously. Named after the devoted leap of the deity Hanuman, it symbolizes courage and devotion, and serves as a pinnacle peak pose in hip-opening sequences. Starting from a low lunge, the back knee lowers and both legs gradually extend in opposite directions until the pelvis descends toward the floor.

Cues

  • Square the hips to face forward rather than allowing one hip to rotate open.
  • Engage the inner thighs gently toward each other to protect the hamstring attachments.
  • Place blocks under both hands to maintain spinal length as the hips descend.
  • Breathe steadily and avoid forcing the descent — let gravity do the work over time.
