Flying Warrior Pose (Vishvamitrasana)

balance
Flying Warrior Pose

Flying Warrior Pose is a demanding arm-balance hybrid that combines a deep lateral hip stretch, a full side-body extension, and a single-arm balance into one exhilarating shape. It challenges wrist and shoulder stability, core strength, and hip flexibility simultaneously, making it a true peak pose for advanced practitioners. From a low side lunge, one arm threads under the lifted leg as the body rotates to balance on one hand with the opposite arm extended toward the sky.

Cues

  • Build a strong foundation by spreading your fingers wide and pressing the base knuckles firmly into the mat before lifting.
  • Engage your core powerfully and think of pulling your lower ribs toward your hip to stay long rather than sagging through the side waist.
  • Extend through your top arm and through the heel of your extended foot to create one continuous line of energy from fingertip to toe.
  • Fix your gaze on a steady point on the wall or floor to maintain balance and a calm, focused breath.
