Firefly Pose (Tittibhasana)

A powerful arm balance in which both legs extend straight out to the sides while the torso hovers low between the arms, requiring exceptional inner-thigh flexibility, wrist strength, and core stability. It appears as a peak pose in advanced sequences, demanding full integration of upper-body pressing power and deep hip mobility. The practitioner threads both arms deeply through the legs from a forward fold position, hooks the thighs high over the upper arms, presses into the palms, and lifts to extend the legs wide apart.
Cues
- Get your shoulders as far behind your knees as possible before pressing up — the deeper the shoulder position, the more leverage you have.
- Straighten the elbows as much as possible while squeezing the inner thighs firmly against the outer arms.
- Flex through both feet and reach actively through the heels to help engage the legs and maintain the extension.
- Keep the chest lifted and gaze forward rather than down to avoid collapsing the upper back.
